Doug Ford said no to expanding Peel Memorial

BRAMPTON — Doug Ford made a vague statement about expanding Peel Memorial into a full hospital while visiting Brampton today – but the Ford Conservatives’ record shows where they stand.

Ford and his Conservatives voted no when Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath moved a motion calling on the government to commit to funding a new hospital for Brampton and the immediate expansion of Peel Memorial almost a year ago.

“Talk is cheap. The PC Party’s voting record show Ford isn’t committed to expanding Peel Memorial and building a new hospital,” said NDP Deputy Leader Sara Singh (Brampton Centre).

“The people of Brampton wait hours in long lines at Peel Memorial, and Brampton Civic is the epicentre of dangerous hallway medicine,” said Gurratan Singh (Brampton East). “People in our community deserve so much better than long painful and anxious waits.”

“We won’t believe any investment – in beds or an actual expansion – is coming until we see Ford commit to funding and timelines, and we see shovels actually go into the ground,” said Kevin Yarde (Brampton North). “New Democrats know exactly what we’d do if we were government: Expand Peel Memorial into a full hospital, and build a new hospital in Brampton. If Ford doesn’t do that now, we’ll do it in 2022.”
