QUEEN’S PARK — NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, who represents the riding of Hamilton Centre, released the following statement in response to news that the movement to save the Hamilton LRT has been successful:
“The revival of the original Hamilton LRT project is a great victory for Hamiltonians and local leaders who have fought for the Hamilton LRT. I’m so proud to have stood with you, together, to stop Doug Ford’s cuts, and to fight for the transit that families in our community deserve.
This project was ripped off the rails 16 months ago by a callous Doug Ford government that just didn’t want to invest the money in Hamilton’s future; our transit needs, our businesses and economy, our downtown or our environment. He’s put us at least 16 months behind – forcing people in our communities to wait even longer for the this project to finally be ready to roll.
I’ll be watching closely for the details, but one thing is certain: It’s time to get shovels in the ground, and make people’s commutes better with the Hamilton LRT.”
